Adding more space and cabinets, mirrors and towel racks to the bathroom is fine, but it shouldn’t stop there. A new generation of toilets is quietly taking place that will make the conventional toilet as obsolete as the chamber pot and outhouse.
Unlike traditional toilets, the high-tech toilet doesn’t use paper, but water to hygienically complete your business. “Bidets” have been used overseas for years, but the new and better models allow for temperature, direction, “pressure control”, and automatic driers as well.
For such a basic ritual, that may seem a bit “over the top” to most Americans, but 34 million of these modern electronic toilets have already been sold around the world. This may seem absurd at first glance, but when you think about it, it makes sense. We use water to wash our dirty dishes and clothes; would we consider them to be “clean” if we just wiped them with a piece of paper?
Americans have always embraced new technologies that improve our lifestyle, so why should personal hygiene be any different? This form of hygiene is already accepted in Asia, and Europe, where the ‘water closet” is now preferred to the “paper” versions, and are becoming standard worldwide while North America remains primarily “paper-centric”.
Change is slow, but when considering a home renovation, there’s no sense in just reinventing the wheel, or the bathroom, when you can make your “new” home really modern and technologically and ecologically “up to date” — including the bathroom.
